Emerging Role of Integrative Medicine in Hematologic Malignancies
Here’s a little something I did.
Actually, I’m lying. This is a BIG something that I did, of which I am very proud.
I was invited by Springer to contribute a research article to the journal Current Hematologic Malignancy Reports. They asked me to provide updates about the emerging role of Integrative medicine in blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. I discuss things from the feasibility & benefits of aerobic exercise and yoga in patients with leukemia, the use of vitamins and supplement, diet modifications in regards to lymphomas (as well as prostate and breast cancer), Ayurvedic medicine, acupuncture during chemotherapy infusion, and much more. I also differentiate complementary medicine from alternative medicine, where complementary medicine is a marriage between evidence based medicine and other health practices to supplement and/or enhance treatment, reduce risk, and mitigate symptoms associated with cancer or cancer treatment. If there is no evidence for certain practices, I also note it, without sugar coating the lack of evidence.
It took a lot of time and research, but the end result is solid. Here’s the link to the article, if you have institutional access, you will have access to the whole thing, otherwise you’ll only be able to view the abstract.
Reach out to me if you have specific questions about the topics covered. Also, don’t worry if you don’t have access, this website is essentially a living and growing data bank of integrative medicine practices within the cancer continuum.
